Doritos teaming with Guitar Hero and Xbox to find the best gamers in a Guitar Hero battle

Doritos has partnered with Xbox to challenge gamers to a Guitar Hero battle to prove their rock credentials.

An on-pack and online promotion, created by AMV BBDO, drives consumers to the Doritos website, where they are asked to enter a promotional code for a chance to win an Xbox 360 and Guitar Hero World Tour kit.

In order to complete their competition entry, users will need to ‘out-rock' Alan, by successfully playing a Guitar Hero-inspired game hosted on the website.

The game uses an original rock track composed for the campaign sung by Robin McAuley, the lead singer of Survivor, whose hits include Eye of the Tiger.

Consumers can also use a combination of Facebook Connect and a bespoke rock star personalization widget, which were developed by WWW.REHABSTUDIO.COM, to further demonstrate their rock credentials.

The social campaign will be supported by activity on MySpace, Facebook, Bebo, Twitter and Spotify.

Doritos has also launched the sequel to last year's frightening Hotel 626 campaign, taking the action from a haunted hotel to a lunatic asylum.

The site, which was created by Goodby, Silverstein & Partners can only be accessed between 6pm and 6am for maximum horror effect.

Guitar Hero Natal Motion Sensor Technology Coming Soon

A future version of the popular “Guitar Hero” franchise that supports the new Natal technology is “likely”, according to RedOctane head honcho Kai Huang. Huang says he and just about everyone else in the industry is excited about the upcoming Microsoft motion-sensor technology.

“We’ve definitely been evaluating Microsoft’s Natal technology along with a lot of other different technologies that could enhance the “Guitar Hero” playing experience,” Huang said. “I think the technology is very exciting… I think it’s likely that sometime in the near future we’ll have those technologies integrated into our games.”

Huang’s comments correspond with the statements made by Brian Wright of Neversoft, who has previously has stated that the company is interested in exploring the technology with the “Guitar Hero” series, among others. “There’s still a lot of interesting stuff we can do with the series,” he told them in August. “I mean, I’m not talking formally but all the motion control stuff from Microsoft and Sony looks really interesting. This is just off the cuff, but it looks really interesting… Ask me the same question next year.”

In related news, information has been leaked that Sony’s version of the motion control sensor device will be available to buy from stores in March 2010. The leaked documents give no indication as to what price consumers can expect to pay for the device, though it does give away other now not so secret company plans, including a target of thirteen million PS3’s to be sold in 2010.
