Guitar Hero III Tips and Hints

Easy "Through The Fire And Flames"

On "Through The Fire And Flames", before you use Star Power, pause Game Play. Hold Select PlayStation2 PlayStation3 or Back Xbox 360, and resume game play. By doing this, you will not miss as many notes if you are going for a "Five Star" rank.

In the Through The Fire And Flames introduction, before you start wrap a rubber band around Green. By doing this, you will not have to worry about holding Green; it does it for you. Make sure you press the other buttons quickly so that Green can register. If you hold the buttons as you do the hammer-ons, Green will not register, and you will fail.

Note: This can only be used if there is one note immediately following another. When you play a single green, red, yellow, or blue note and it is followed by a note that is to the right of it on the guitar controller's neck, you can hit the note without strumming the second note by keeping your finger on the first note and then pressing the next note.

"22 Acadia Avenue"

"22 Acadia Avenue" is a song name by the band Iron Maiden. You can see this in the first venue of Career mode.

There is a reference to the movie Predator in the song "Helicopter".

After playing the song, go to the "More Stats" screen, or to Practice mode and get to the screen where you choose what section to play. One of the sections in the song is called "Get Back To The Choppa!!!" which seems to be a reference to Arnold Schwarzenneger's line in Predator, when they are all running away from the Predator.

Free Dropkick Murphy's Track Pack for Guitar Hero III

Giving you a four-day head start on St. Patrick's Day, Red Octane has released the Dropkick Murphy's Track Pack for Guitar Hero III. The pack comes tagged with the best price in town: free.

The new songs are now available on the Xbox Live Marketplace and should be up on the PlayStation Network later today.

Three songs are included in the pack: "Famous for Nothing", "Flannigan's Ball", and "Johnny, I Hardly Knew Ya". Free is free, so there's no harm in giving these songs a shot.

PlayStation Store only releases 3 new songs for Guitar Hero III

Three fresh songs for Guitar Hero III are all the Playstation Store has to offer this week, disappointingly.

These are wrapped up in a Modern Metal Track Pack - the same one Live and US PSN had last week - and will cost GBP 3.99.

Inside is "Almost Easy" by Avenged Sevenfold, "The Arsonist" by Thrice, and "Hole in the Earth" by The Deftones.

Or you can watch a trailer for Elefunk, a puzzle game being readied for PSN. It makes you build bridges and then test their resilience by putting elephants on them, because what else would you use?

We like elephants; did you know that the largest elephant ever recorded was over four meters tall (shoulder height) and weighed roughly 12 tons? That's 146 times heavier than me. Fatty.

The only other offering for PS3 is a PixelJunk Monsters theme.

Teen sets Guinness record for Guitar Hero skills

ROCHESTER, Minn. — The quick fingers of a Rochester teen have earned him a spot in the record books for his prowess at the Guitar Hero video game.

Sixteen-year-old Chris Chike of Rochester set the record Tuesday for highest single-song score on the popular video game Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock.

His 97 per cent completion rate on the game's most difficult song, the seven-minute "Through Fire and Flames," earned more than 840,000 points, almost double the old record.

Guinness World Records judge Doug Parsons said in a news release that Chike's accomplishments were "nothing short of amazing."

Chike tells the Post-Bulletin of Rochester that he used to play the game four to five hours a day, but now plays much less because the game has lost its challenge.

Chike set the record at a New York City event marking the launch of Guinness World Records: Gamers Edition.

He's a junior at Century High School in Rochester.

Guitar Hero facing legal challenge

There could soon be a strum off between two of the biggest players in the music world.

Not we're not talking record labels - but - on one side - the musical gamers' favorite, Guitar Hero, and on the other, legendary guitar maker Gibson.

The two companies have been collaborating for years, with the game developer even modeling its Guitar Hero controllers on Gibson models, but now a patent wrangle is on the cards.

Gibson says the game violates a 1999 patent for technology to "simulate a musical performance".

But Activision has countered this and asked the US District Court for Central California to declare Gibson's patent invalid and also to stop it from seeking any damages. The case continues...

RedOctane

RedOctane was founded in 1999 by Kai Huang and Charles Huang. During August of that year, they began operation as the world's first online video game rental service. After lackluster growth as a web company, they would later become better known for re-designing the Konami Deluxe Dance Pad into the Ignition Dance Pads and other video game accessories.

In June 2005, RedOctane expanded into publishing original video games. Their first published title was a PlayStation 2 version of In The Groove, a dancing game. Developed by Roxor Games, In The Groove was already established in arcades.

RedOctane then teamed up with developer Harmonix to release Guitar Hero in November 2005 for the PlayStation 2. The music game proved extremely popular, consisting of over 30 licensed tracks playable with a custom-designed guitar peripheral. The game was well-received by critics and fans, spawning a successful sequel in 2006 for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox 360. Continuing installments of series are currently slated to appear on several other consoles.

In May 2006, video game publisher Activision announced plans to acquire RedOctane, completing the deal on June 6th, 2006. Activision reportedly paid RedOctane $99.9 million in cash and common stock in the acquisition.

After the Activision buy-out and a split from Harmonix, who went on to develop competing game Rock Band, RedOctane utilized Activision owned Neversoft, the team responsible for the Tony Hawk skateboarding video game franchise, to take the helm on Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, which became available in October 2007.

Gaming news site Kotaku calls Guitar Hero an "instant cult classic". In the 26 months since first release, Guitar Hero has generated over $1B in sales.
